New Pictures

Yesterday Calen was goofing off on the living room floor and I took some of my favorite pictures yet. He was being so cute!
I love this pouty face!
This one is my favorite for sure. :)

Wool....

I've decided - I'm completely in love with wool soakers! I've been using them at night for about a week now, and I still can't believe how much better they work. Previously I was using a prefold with a nylon pull-on pant (Dappi brand, specifically), and oftentimes when I got Calen up in the AM his pj's would be slightly damp. Usually the diaper would be wet enough that the soft edging on the pant would wick some moisture out, and this caused the dampness. But no more! Even after just one time lanolizing them, his Aristocrats soaker keep his pj's far more dry, and from what I've read, they generally take a few treatments to be performing at their best. I've also been really pleased with how well the longies I made him have worked. I lanolized them twice when I made them, and when he wears them there's not even a hint of dampness on his pj's.
Granted, the Aristocrats soaker is much more expensive than the Dappi pants - that's why you put them on Christmas lists! (Thank you! :) ) And I do think the Dappi pants work quite well for the daytime, because they're getting changed more often. At night though, Calen is in bed from about 7:30- 6:30, and that's just too long for the nylon pants to keep him dry.

Hurray for wool! :)

Finally!

Just a quick note to say Calen just rolled over for the first time. He was on his tummy playing with a toy, and I was folding his diapers. When I came back down the hall from putting them away (translate that into "throwing them on the floor of his room") I could see that he was really close. When I walked up to him he moved from his side to his back and grinned up at me. Then, while I was typing this up he was really close again, so I went over to "cheer" him on - and he did it again (also front to back).

Yipee!! :)

Milestones...

Calen has yet to reach that very basic baby milestone of rolling over. Yep, you heard me, six months plus and nary a spin. Front to back, or back to front. But we love him anyways. He has, however, begun sitting for short periods.

Today he had his first big boy bath in the bathtub. The sink is simply to small for a 16# boy! :)

Here's a video showing off his skills....and yes he did cry. I just shut off the video camera before that part! He was fine. Just a little scared/startled.

Depoe Bay

Saturday Mark, Calen and I drove up and over to the coast for a mini family reunion. Mark's parents, grandma on his mom's side (Mamah), and Mamah's sister, brother and sister-in-law, niece, grand-niece .....grand-nephew-in-law(???) and great-grand-nephew, got together at the "whale-watching capital" of Depoe Bay, OR. This is where we stayed. The view from our room. The weather was great - not very windy, clear, not that cold (50's ?). Absolutely gorgeous.

Calen playing with his papa.

Attempting to get both his feet and both his hands in his mouth at one time... :)

Latest Project

Here is a quick picture of my last project - a quick baby quilt for a coworker. The squares were all from scrap fabric someone gave me, and the batting and binding fabric were leftover from Calen's quilt. I did purchase the two border fabrics, the backing flannel, and the little bit of ric-rac on the "flower". That was my first time attempting any kind of applique, and since I can't get the zigzag stitch to work on my machine, I had to make do instead of doing it "properly". Overall though I'm fairly pleased.

Christmas Gift...

Remember my pictures of a couple items from Calen's christmas list? Here he is modeling one of them! I really love the feel of it, and I think Calen does too. :)

a christmas recap - finally!

I've been waiting to post because until yesterday, we were unable to pull our pictures off our camera. We were in the midst of a dead camera battery plight, and also a "where in the world has our charger hidden itself" plight.

Not a great combination. But thanks to a good friend who has a similar camera, we're back in business.

Christmas was spent up with my family in WA, and it was a blast. They don't typically have a white Christmas, but boy did we this year! I will present evidence below. :)

On to the pictures....

Calen enjoying opening his first Christmas present - ever! He seemed to like ripping the paper. :)

Jeremiah enjoying the family singing Christmas carols. Apparently we all need to keep our day jobs!

Jenna keeping it festive with a Santa hat...

I don't know what made JJ so excited - maybe we'd finished singing. :)

Noah being a cutie....

Hannah with the best gift of the night. Think "A Christmas Story" Larrabee style! :)

JJ giving a little perspective on how much snow had fallen.
Noah looked a little sleepy Christmas morning!

The truck on the left was what drove. Six inches or so fell while we were there.

Just another shot to show how much snow there was.

Calen got to go sledding for the first time. Here he is on his second run, with his Aunty Megan.

Making snow angels - a difficult job when the snow is deep! :)

We took advantage of the deep snow by burying Mark and my brother Matt.
We hope everyone else had a great Christmas!
