parenting..
why, you ask, am i online and posting at 2:34 in the morning???
simple, i say. i have a son who is screaming in his bed!
after about 6 weeks of calen sleeping full nights every night, he has decided that was a nice little fad, but he'd like to go back to waking up and eating, thank you very much. it started about a week ago, and all he did was wake up around 4 am every morning.
no problem. at that point he's usually been asleep for about 9 hrs. that, in my humble opinion, constitutes sleeping through the night, and he has earned the privilege of an early breakfast (as long as he's planning on going back to sleep!).
but saturday night, he decided it was time to get up after having been in bed for a scant hour (that night is a story on it's own).
sunday night, he woke up three times: 10:00, 2:30, and 4:15 - and he went to bed at 8! and had napped well! even though i knew i was shooting myself in the foot, so to speak, i fed him each time, and he went right back to sleep. but i knew i didn't want to make that a habit (again).
so tonight we are practicing the old: "you have certainly proved that you don't need to eat during the night, and you've proved you can sleep for at least 8 hrs, so don't think your crying is going to help anything" trick.
which means mommy is up at 2:30 in the morning listening to him cry - make that scream.
but he seems to be quieting.
hopefully it lasts.
good night!

pics...
still haven't had much time for posting - but i have taken pictures a few times recently, so i thought i'd put them up.
his new favorite thing is rolling on to his side. he still hasn't figured out how to complete the movement, which isn't surprising. it's much easier to roll from front to back, but he gets fairly fussy in a short amount of time on his stomach, so i haven't made him hang out that way much. consequently he hasn't had that much opportunity to reach that milestone. for now he is happy just rolling on to his side!
this morning after i took off his pajamas and changed his diaper i didn't bother putting his clothes on at first. instead i wrapped him in his quilt while he had breakfast. he just looked so cute all bundled up i had to get his picture.
something else cute he's been doing lately is trying to work with both his hands together - i think his eventual goal is to get both fists in his mouth at the same time.
he also seems to have inherited his mummy's habit of sticking his tongue out while concentrating. he was very intently studying my goofy antics while i tried to get him to react for the camera.
and now for the grand finale: his smurf jammies photo shoot!!! i can't remember whose these were initially (???) but they've gone thru more than a few babies. now it's calen's turn.
this last photo is my favorite: it seems like it should be from the end of the "session", but it was actually the first photo i took. his yawn seems to say, "enough pictures already, mommy!"

too busy...
oh, well.
but enough complaining. not much new is happening around here. mark and his friend calen (why does that name sound familiar???) are going to be driving down to N California this afternoon to hang out with some other friends for the weekend, so little calen and i will have the house to ourselves. hopefully i will be able to get some much needed time to work on "stuff". i'm feeling the crunch of christmas already - i'd like to get started on lists, if not gifts and shopping. i'm realizing how much harder it is getting gifts for family members when you no longer live near them - people change in big and little ways and it's difficult to realize that when you don't see them!
i've definitely realized the helpfulness of christmas lists, that's for sure. :)
here are a couple things i have on calen's:
