when i think of how much i have dragged this poor boy around in the car, it's a wonder he isn't cranky all the time...he has gone to washingon twice, california once, and of course all around oregon.
a week ago today he and i took off for wa to see my family and friends. while he definitely will let you know when he's hungry, or just tired of being strapped in, he is a fairly decent baby in the car. we made the trip in about 8 hrs, just as i'd counted on.
tuesday morning i surprised my sister by showing up on her doorstep about 9 am. we had managed to keep my trip a secret from her, and her husband had asked a favor of her to make sure she wasn't out of the house when i showed up (good job, scott). we had a good time catching up and letting her guys spend a little time with their new cousin.
then we all went back to my parents house to make applesauce. with 30 lbs of gravensteins to can we should have enough to last us at least a little while. funny to think that i'll be feeding some to calen before too much time passes by!
it was great to see my family and let them get to know calen a little better. friday morning saw them leaving for a short camping trip, so calen and i took off for an abbreviated drive south to spend some time with two dear friends. it was great to to be able to relax for a bit and catch up with them both. it was also fun watching my friend's toddler react to calen - he didn't always understand what was up with the squirmy little bundle, but he seemed to enjoy calen regardless!
it was a great week, but we are very glad to be home - that was a very long time to be away from mark.
